Become a Home Health Aide if Looking for Independence

If you are still hankering after that medical college degree or diploma but haven’t been able to pursue or complete it due to lack of funds, consider the option of becoming a home health aide.
As a home aide you will be required to tend to those ill or injured persons or those who wish to be treated in the comfort of their own homes. You will do this under the supervision of trained medical staff that will visit from time to time and will be needed to perform basic duties like administrating medication, checking pulse, pressure and respiration. Sometimes you will also need to bathe, clothe and give therapeutic massages to the patient or dress wounds.
Home health aide jobs are fast becoming popular amongst medical students who wish to make some money on the side while still studying. Others who have completed a basic medical diploma or have a fair amount of training and expertise take up the job for the great amount of independence and work flexibility it brings with it.
A home health aide or nursing aide is required to perform the same duties as a regular nursing assistant but due to the job’s nature of being associated with offering services at home, it offers varied advantages, the biggest one being financial independence and freedom from contractual employment.
It is highly recommended to become a home health aide, particularly if you prefer to:
  1. Enjoy helping others
  2. Not  be bound by a contract
  3. Work as per patient’s timings and not as per a Hospital’s
  4. Make good money while working fewer hours
  5. Work alone and not with a big team of medical professionals
  6. Focus more on physical work rather than skilled medical work
  7. Work independently and not under a permanent doctor
  8. Be financially independent while still studying rather than relying on grants and loans from family
Home health aides may or may not be associated with nursing homes and hospitals but most of them are on call by hospitals since this helps them to get more work easily.
Home health aides also have flexible working hours that can be restricted to evenings and weekends only, especially in case of students.
